Mission

To mobilize and organize individuals, nonprofits, government agencies and faith communities to address community problems in Lowndes County and the Black Belt Region of Alabama.

Vision

To be a community with renewed values, abundant resources, and hope.

Vision Strategy

  • Identify the specific conditions which contribute to a negative feedback loop.

  • Organize programs which will replace each of the problem conditions with one which will contribute to a positive outcome.

  • Structure the programs, resources and activities to rely on the efforts of the individuals who will benefit from them with particular emphasis on collaboration and community building.

Strategic Plan

Based upon it's vision of the conditions necessary to unleash the community's natural capacity for growth and prosperity, the board of directors determined that projects should be organized around two major objectives:

(a) Encourage the development of the values and life skills which inform one's choice of goals and the means to achieve those goals.

(b) Create or improve access to the resources necessary for success. To fuel the positive feedback process vital to sustainable improvement, the board of directors selected projects that both offered the prospect of visible success and relied for their success upon the efforts of those who stood to benefit from them.

The following projects have been identified and/or implemented to date which satisfied these criteria.

  • BLACK BELT CENTER FOR ENTERPRISE INNOVATION: A comprehensive business assistance program targeting start-up and early stage firms with the goal of improving their chances to grow into healthy, sustainable companies that can compete in a high technological global market.

  • WORK READY: Lowndes Work Readiness and Workplace Development Project. A community Career Area Network System (CANS) dedicated to the mission of training, mentoring, employing our neediest neighbors; moving them from dependency to self-sufficiency as projective citizens of our community and to true wellness.

  • ROYAL: RAISING OUR YOUTH AS LEADERS: ROYAL has adopted several strategies and programs aimed at supporting and building the capacities of the most neediest youth. The ROYAL model is based on the understanding of how individuals and communities change. With emphasis on academic success, individual change and leadership development, we work to establish transformational relationships with young people and provide intensive outreach through "street work" - building relationships on the youth's own turf or natural environment.

  • BLACK BELT TRAINING ACADEMY AND SKILLS CENTER (in partnership with Blue Ridge International Academy): Black Belt Training Academy through our relationship with Blue Ridge Academy is nationally and internationally accredited, we have the unique ability to offer diplomas recognized by schools and colleges across the country and around the world. We uphold the highest standards in online learning set forth by NAAS, CITA, and SACS CASI, and are constantly striving to improve student achievement. Our systems, processes, and business practices are designed to maximize student support, while minimizing administrative work for our clients.

  • AFRICAN AMERICAN HEALTHY MARRIAGE INITIATIVE: A component of the Administration for Children and Families Healthy Marriage Initiative and more specifically promotes a culturally competent strategy for fostering healthy marriage and responsible fatherhood, improving child well-being and strengthening families within the African American Community.
